FAQ’s
What types of tests does First Quality Lab offer?
We offer a wide range of clinical laboratory tests, including blood and urine analysis, hormone panels, infectious disease testing, genetic testing, wellness panels, and special tests such as toxicology and STD screenings. We use advanced technology to provide accurate and reliable results.
Do I need a doctor’s order to get tested?
In most cases, yes. Diagnostic tests require a valid order from a licensed healthcare provider. However, we also offer wellness panels and direct-to-consumer tests that do not require a doctor’s order. Ask us about the available options.
How can I schedule an appointment?
You can schedule an appointment by calling us directly, filling out the form on our website, or visiting us in person. We recommend scheduling ahead of time to minimize wait times.
Do you accept health insurance?
We work with most major health insurance providers. If you’re unsure about your coverage, contact us with your insurance information and we’ll gladly verify your benefits and what is covered.
How long do test results take?
Turnaround time varies by test. Most standard tests are available within 24 to 72 hours. Specialized tests, such as genetic or molecular testing, may take longer. You can check the status of your results through our patient portal.
How do I receive my results?
Results are delivered securely through our online patient portal. We can also send them via email or fax with your authorization. If you need help interpreting your results, please consult your healthcare provider.
Can I get tested if I don’t have insurance?
Yes, we welcome self-pay patients and offer affordable rates and special wellness packages. Ask about our promotions for routine tests, preventive care, and annual checkups.
How should I prepare before a test?
Some tests require fasting or stopping certain medications. When scheduling your appointment, we’ll inform you of any specific preparation needed.
What does “fasting” mean before a lab test?
Fasting means not consuming any food or drinks (except water) for a specific period—usually 8 to 12 hours before your test. This helps ensure accurate results, especially for metabolic or blood tests.
Which tests typically require fasting?
These tests usually require fasting:
- Fasting glucose
- Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT)
- Complete lipid panel (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides)
- Fasting insulin
- C-peptide
- Vitamin B12 or folic acid (in some cases)
- Liver function tests (as indicated by your doctor)
We recommend fasting for 8 to 12 hours. Avoid chewing gum, drinking coffee, tea, or sugary beverages.
Which tests do NOT require fasting?
You can take these tests without fasting:
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- Thyroid tests (TSH, T3, T4)
- Hormone tests (estrogen, testosterone, cortisol)
- Kidney function tests (urea, creatinine)
- Urinalysis or urine culture
- STD tests (HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B & C)
- Tumor markers
- Vitamins D and E (morning sample recommended)
Can I drink water during fasting?
Yes. Drinking water is allowed and encouraged. Staying hydrated helps make the blood draw easier and does not affect test results.
Should I stop taking my medications before a test?
Do not stop taking any medications unless instructed by your doctor. Some medications may affect your results, so it’s important to inform our staff about any medications you’re taking.
What if I accidentally eat before a fasting test?
Please let our staff know if you ate before a test that requires fasting. In some cases, your test may need to be rescheduled to ensure accurate results.
What’s the best time of day to do fasting tests?
Morning is generally best—after overnight fasting. This helps ensure standardized results and prevents discomfort from going too long without eating.
Can I brush my teeth while fasting?
Yes, but avoid swallowing toothpaste or using mouthwash with sugar, as it may interfere with glucose or lipid test results.
How soon can I eat after my blood test?
Once your sample has been collected, you may eat normally—unless your doctor has instructed otherwise or you have more tests scheduled.
